Moved by a desire to establish twinning links and co-operation in various fields of culture, the economy and public life between the cities of Kutaisi and Newport taking into account the mutual interest that the citizens of our cities have in the life and culture of each other, acknowledging that the fostering of twinning links between cities facilitates the cause of mutual understanding and the lessening of tension in international relations, fulfilling the lofty mission of the Kutaisi City Council of people’s deputies and Newport City Council, the authorised representatives of the cities sign the present agreement concerning the twinning between the two cities of Kutaisi and Newport.

Both cities will realise twinning links and co-operation in various fields of public life by all the means at our disposal, and in part, in the following ways:

-by exchange of delegations of city representatives, specialists in various fields of city life, representatives of science, technology and economy, literature and the arts, of the trade union movement, tourists, amateur groups within the arts, youth and sport.

-by the exchange of information of the life of the cities and their inhabitants, the activities of the local authorities, bearing in mind that such exchanges will enable both sides to acquaint themselves with the experience of the development of each city’s economy, education, health care, social services, culture and sport.

Just as the Executive Committee of the Kutaisi City Council of people’s deputies and Newport City Council will participate in the realisation of contacts and co-operation between the two cities, so too will various enterprises, institutions, places of learning and public organisations, including trade unions, youth and women’s groups and other organisations.

Concrete plans for exchanges and co-operation will be agreed upon each year by the Executive of Kutaisi City Council of people’s deputies and Newport City Council.
