Newport Kutaisi Association and ALDA Aid for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the City of Kutaisi

After the Russians aggression in Georgia in August 2008, there were up to 2500 internally displaced persons relocated from the Upper Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions living in the city of Kutaisi.

Currently, 117 IDP families are living in Kutaisi. To improve the living conditions of IDPs, the local government of Kutaisi, with financial support from the state budget has renovated 3 administrative buildings to create suitable accommodation for IDP families.

Headed by Newport’s Mayor, Newport Kutaisi Twining Association raised 1,652.00 Euros and with an additional 1,000.00 Euros from the Association of Local Democracy Agencies based in Europe are able to help in a small way the remaining IDPs living in Kutaisi.
Based on their needs and weather conditions, it was decided to purchase electric heaters for 117 households.

Newport Kutaisi Association hope that their small support for the Internally Displaced Persons in Kutaisi will improve their living condition knowing of the loss of all possessions, livelihood and country.
