Unique sepulcher found in Bagrati Temple

Another unique discovery has been found in Georgia. Archeologists have found a sepulcher at the west gate of the hall of Bagrati Temple in Kutaisi city, Imereti Region. Reconstruction works are being carried out in the temple at present and the tomb was found during the foundation reinforcement works.

Gold earrings, ruby rings, glass bracelets, adornments decorated with colorful stones and other women's accessories that date back to 8th or 9th century AD have been discovered.

Experts say special solution has been used for conservation of the sepulcher that is quite unusual for that period. A stone box lies on the tomb.

The sepulcher presumably belongs to a noble woman from a royal family. A group of archeologists and the director general of the National Agency of Georgia's Cultural Heritage, Nikoloz Vacheishvili are at site now examining the unique discovery.

The amount and significance of the adornments are so important, law enforcers have been deployed in the territory. The whole area of Bagrati temple is now under control of the police.

Gold of Colchis

The museum in Kutaisi already has a marvelous range of gold religious artifacts studded with precious gems and in Vani excavations are still going on and have unearthed some spectacular finds. A few years ago a talk was held in Caerleon to discuss the Vani site
